Collins Scores 20 in the 2nd Half, Brockport Defeats Cortland at Home

Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport men's basketball team won its fifth game in a row on Saturday, taking down the Cortland Red Dragons 86-73. The team is now 5-1 overall and an undefeated 2-0 in SUNYAC play.

Tyler Collins led the way with 25 points on an efficient 7-for-10 shooting from the floor. Collins hit four shots from long range, made 7-of-9 free throws, and dished out five assists. Justin Summers and Jahidi Wallace combined for 31 points and 18 boards. Danny Ashley was the fourth member of the team to reach double-figures, tallying 10 points and six assists.

Summers did most of his damage in the first half, scoring 13 points to lead the team going into the locker rooms. The Green and Gold held the lead for most of the opening half, stretching the lead to as much as eight points. After a highly contested 20 minutes of play, Brockport held a 38-33 lead at halftime.

The second half was back and forth with 12 lead changes and five ties throughout. Tyler Collins found his rhythm in the second half, scoring 20 of his team-high 25 in the final 20 minutes of play. Solid team defense and success at the foul line late in the second half allowed Brockport to pull away and secure a 13-point victory over Cortland.

The Golden Eagles went 21-for-29 from the charity stripe in the contest. They took advantage of several transition opportunities, scoring 25 points off of Cortland turnovers and a total of 33 points on the fast break. Brockport had seven less turnovers in the game, and had 11 steals compared to just three from the opposition.

Cortland's Austin Grunder had an impressive performance, putting up game-highs of 29 points and 18 rebounds. The Red Dragons are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Brockport is back in action on December 15th for the first day of the Mauro Panaggio Tournament down in Daytona Beach, FL. The team takes on St. Joseph's College of Maine at 2 pm that Sunday.
