Last Minute Goal Leaves Brockport Short of the Victory

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team got edge out by Lycoming College Saturday afternoon, losing by a final score of 5-4. The Golden Eagles drop to 2-5 on the year, where the Warriors move to 4-3.
 
Both teams went toe-to-toe in the opening quarter, but it was Lycoming to pull out front first with a goal five minutes into the action. Brockport dominated the remainder of the quarter but could not find the back of the net, as they trailed 1-0 heading into the next quarter.
 
The Golden Eagles stumbled in the second quarter as the Warriors notched back-to-back goals to extend their lead to 3-0. Brockport fought back and eventually converted with two seconds remaining in the half. Senior Zach Cook deked out a defender and ripped his shot near post past the visiting goalie to set the halftime score at 3-1.
 
Brockport went to battle against Lycoming as it was a defensive battle through the first half of the third quarter. The Green and Gold suffered as the Warriors added another goal to pull away 4-1. The Golden Eagles picked up the pace to eventually score with 10 seconds to go in the third. After a series of three straight shots, Patrick Sheridan scooped up a loose ball and ripped his shot into the net to cut the deficit to 4-2.
 
The Green and Gold controlled the fourth quarter posting an advantage in shots (11-6), shots on goal (7-4), ground balls (10-4) and face offs (4-0). The Brockport offense get rolling as the scored a pair of goals under a minute to tie the game up at 4-4. Liam O'Connor was the first two cash-in on the two-goal swing, then Sheridan added the game tying goal 40 seconds later. Brockport locked down defensively but Lycoming hit the go-ahead-goal with 27 seconds to go in the game to eventually win, 5-4.
 
Sheridan led the offensive charge with a pair of goals, with O'Connor and Cook adding one a piece. Joe Chiarmonte finished the game with three caused turnovers and a groundball and Steve Gurin recording two caused turnovers and picking up five ground balls. Michael Caternolo dominated in the faceoff circle, winning 8 of the 12 matchups.
 
Goalie Dallas Meyers finished the game playing all 60 minutes in net and racking up 10 saves.
 
The Brockport men's lacrosse hit the road for their first State University of New York Athletic Conference contest next Saturday March 31, with the game set to start at 3 p.m.
