POTSDAM, N.Y.— The College at Brockport women's soccer team defeated SUNY Potsdam on Saturday, 4-2. The win clinched a spot in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) playoffs.
With the victory, Brockport moves to 9-6-2 on the year and has a SUNYAC record of 4-4-1. The Bears fall to 12-5-2 and finishes league play with a 5-3-1 mark.
The Golden Eagles converted early in the game after
Molly Zientek netted her third goal of the season in the fifth minute to post a 1-0 lead.
Aja Holloway knocked in her second goal of the season in the 40th minute to give Brockport a 2-0 advantage. Goal keeper
Kimberly Lubanski with the help of the defense, kept the Bears off the board in the first half and took the 2-0 lead into the break.
The Green and Gold kept their offense rolling two minutes into the second half with Zientek knocking in her second goal of the game and establishing a 3-0 lead by the 48th minute.
Sarah Covell knocked in a header, the fourth Brockport goal of the game thanks to an assist from
Lindsey Lovett. Brockport allowed two goals in a two-minute period, but held firm for the remainder of the game to come out victorious, 4-2.
"We played with a lot of purpose, determination and discipline today," commented head coach
Mike Idland. "We showed a lot of growth from last game to this one and I look forward to the chance for the players to show more in the playoff game."
Lubanski saw all 90 minutes for the Green and Gold, picking up six saves on the day.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Oct. 28 in the opening round of the SUNYAC tournament where they will face off against SUNY Cortland.
