New Paltz, NY – Senior Justine O'Reilly of the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team tied a program record with five goals scored in an 8-1 victory over SUNYAC foe The College at Brockport Friday afternoon.

O'Reilly became just the second player in program history to record five goals in a single game. The other Hawk to pull off the feat was Danielle Conklin '14, who scored five goals in an 11-1 road victory against Ramapo College on Sept. 13, 2013.

The Hawks improve to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles fall to 1-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

"New Paltz is a determined, hard working and skilled team," Brockport head coach Krista Archambeau said. "We knew that going into this game. The combination of that and us not showing up resulted in an 8-1 loss for us. New Paltz worked for the win and we did not."

O'Reilly opened the scoring in the fourth minute with her first goal of the game which came off an assist from sophomore Kaitlyn Gunter.

Just over three minutes later, junior Serena Capsello made it a 2-0 game off an assist from senior Hayley Kim. O'Reilly scored two more goals in the first half at the 20:08 and 25:26 marks to make it 4-0 at halftime.

Brockport got on the board in the 37th minute when freshman Jenna Croce scored off a deflection from senior Megan Gangewere.

Capsello scored her second goal of the game at the 37:35 mark and O'Reilly scored again in the 47th minute off the first career assist from freshman Renee Salerno.

Freshman Carly Croteau made it a 7-1 game at the 47:41 mark off a helper from O'Reilly, who would score her fifth goal of the game in the 64th minute.

SUNY New Paltz outshot Brockport 32-6 and held an 11-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Gangewere made four stops in the cage to hold down the defense.

The Hawks will next face reigning SUNYAC Champion SUNY Geneseo tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. on the North Turf Field. This will be the first time these two teams face off since the Knights' 1-0 victory in last season's SUNYAC Tournament semifinal round.

"Today we focused on being disciplined inside the circle," SUNY New Paltz head coach Shanna Szablinski said. "Attack wise, we did a really good job of stretching and creating space and then attacking that space. The second half we focused on possession hockey and being more patient with the ball. We're very pleased with the way we played and we want to keep the momentum going for our game tomorrow against Geneseo."
