Cardinals Clinch SUNYAC Playoff Spot With 1-0 Win Over Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y.- Senior Nicholas Laurent (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) scored the goal that clinched a SUNYAC playoff spot for the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team Saturday evening in their 1-0 win over SUNY Geneseo at College Stadium.

Plattsburgh State is now 10-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the conference while Geneseo moved to 7-7-2 and 3-5-1 in the conference.

The Cardinals went out strong recording four of their six first half shots in the opening seven minutes.

Laurent's goal came in the 35th minute off a cross from Sean Cray (Modena, N.Y. / Wallkill) that landed just right in front of the net and put the Cardinals up 1-0 heading into halftime.

Geneseo out shot Plattsburgh State 9-5 in the second half but could not find the back of the net and the Cardinals took a one goal win to secure a spot in the SUNYAC playoffs.

Sophomore Patrick Feeley (Harriman, N.Y. / Monroe-Woodbury) recorded his fifth shutout of the season and eighth win making three saves in his 90:00 minutes between the pipes.

Laurent had three shots, two on goal; Jimmy Marchena (Massapequa, N.Y. / Plainedge) recorded four shots, two on goal and John Latouche (Salisbury Mills, N.Y. / Washingtonville), Elver Maldonado (Mamaroneck, N.Y. / Mamaroneck) and Alex Price (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) all had one shot on goal.

Plattsburgh State is the fifth seed heading into the first round of SUNYAC playoffs. They will be playing the fourth seeded Brockport on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Brockport.

The Cardinals are away Tuesday to play a non-conference game against SUNY Canton at 4:30 p.m.
