Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer takes road victory versus Potsdam 4-1

Seaver Lipshie scores one and adds an assist

Four different players scored today for the SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team in defeating host Potsdam 4-1.  The victory for the Red Dragons snapped a mini three-game skid while salvaging a weekend split in the North Country moving its overall record to 2-9-1 and 2-4 in the SUNYAC.  The loss for the Bears dropped them to 9-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play.

The Red Dragons posted a pair of goals in the first half to grab a 2-0 lead at the break.  Junior Seaver Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) got things going in the 26th minute when she was left wide open in the middle of the box.  Freshman Micaela Honsinger (New Hartford/New Hartford) created the opportunity when she crossed the ball into the box.

Less than five minutes later, junior Morgan Downin (Franklin/Longview (TX)) collected a loose ball out in front of the goal before pushing a shot past the Potsdam keeper giving Oneonta a 2-0 lead.

The Red Dragons piled up 24 shots for the game including an even 12 shots in each half.  They also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks for the match.

A penalty kick goal for Rylie Murray in the 74th minute cut Oneonta's lead in half.

Oneonta answered with a pair of goals within three minutes of each other in the final 10 minutes of the match.  The first was an unassisted goal by junior Julie Steinhauer (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa), who collected her own rebound before sliding a shot by the keeper.  The goal was Steinhauer's team-leading fourth of the season.

The insurance goal for the Red Dragons came off a corner kick by senior Laura Rolston (New City/Clarkstown South) at the 83-minute mark.  The service came in from Lipshie, who collected her team-leading third assist.

Oneonta will not play again until next Saturday, Oct. 14 when they travel to New Paltz to face the Hawks beginning at 1pm.
