No.14 Brockport Drops Season Opener Against Nazareth, 14-12

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -  The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team dropped their season opening game against Nazareth College on Wednesday, 14-12. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-1 in 2018, where the Golden Flyers move to 1-1.
 
Brockport came out slow in the first half, as Nazareth took at 4-0 lead in the opening eight minutes of play. The Green and Gold chipped away at the advantage with a three-goal swing to trail 4-3. After a pair of Golden Flyers goals, Samantha Dooling, Sara Grapevine, and Victoria Thompson all added a goal to tie the game up at 6-6. Nazareth tallied a last second goal to take a 7-6 edge heading into halftime.
 
Brockport came out red hot as Andrea Zlinsky and Cheyenne Burnham notched a goal apiece to take an 8-7 advantage in the second half. The Golden Eagles fell behind as Nazareth went on a five-goal run to hold a 12-8 lead. Brockport tallied four more goals, but fell short in finding the victory as they lost by the eventual score.
 
The Golden Eagles offense was led by Zlinsky and Jade Williams who had three goals each. Nikki Nolan lead the defense with two caused turnovers and three groundballs. Brockport converted 14 out of 16 clear attempts, while holding Nazareth to go 15-19.
 
Sara Shaddock racked up eight saves in the cage for the Green and Gold in all 60 minutes of play.
 
Brockport will open their home season, facing Ithaca College this Saturday March 3, with the contest set to start at 1 p.m.
