SUNY New Paltz Tennis Crush Plattsburgh State 9-0 on Senior Day

| By:
Box Score New Paltz, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz tennis team undefeated streak continued Saturday, as the Hawks (4-0 overall, 4-0 SUNYAC) rolled to a 9-0 sweep over visiting Plattsburgh State (8-3, 2-2).senior_day_cover

The match also served as Senior Day for SUNY New Paltz's lone senior, Lindsay Haley. Haley, playing at second doubles and sixth singles Saturday against the Cardinals, had two outstanding performances in what was her final home match of her Hawks career.

Haley and doubles partner Victoria Zezula defeated Plattsburgh State's Sierra Barrett and Rukshanna Abdeen, 8-2. Haley then followed up with a convincing, 6-1, 6-1, victory over the Cardinals' Sarah Hoeffner in singles.

SUNY New Paltz coach Rob Bruley was pleased with the way his team responded after a tough 5-4 win over SUNY Oneonta Thursday night. The victory was big in terms of SUNYAC seeding in a few weeks and the Hawks didn't overlook the Cardinals after coming off the high of a big victory over the rival Red Dragons.

"Lindsay was a standout today," said SUNY New Paltz coach Rob Bruley. "Team had a convincing win after a tough road trip and a late night."

Trinity Chow and Laura Koob didn't drop a match against Kelci Henn and Nadine Ciardulli, defeating the pair, 8-0, in first doubles. Courtney Koran and Emma Messenger also got the job done, earning an 8-3 victory over Plattsburgh State's Sarah Sampson and Hoeffner in third doubles.

Chow and Koob earned 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 wins in first and second singles, respectively, while Zezula cruised past Sampson in third singles, 6-0, 6-0. Maddy Bourne defeated Sierra Barrett in fourth singles, 6-2, 6-0, while Koran also was dominant in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Tina Mitsoglou.

The Hawks have just three more matches before they enter SUNYAC play. They have a big conference weekend Oct. 5, 6 and 7, taking on defending SUNYAC champion, SUNY Geneseo, Fredonia State and The College at Brockport, respectively.
