CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland swept singles play on its way to an 8-1 win over visiting Brockport in a SUNYAC women's tennis match.

Cortland picked up its first league win of the fall and is now 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The Red Dragons will host Fredonia in a SUNYAC match Saturday at 11 a.m. in a start time that was changed from the 1 p.m.

In doubles play, Mia Hayes (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) and Chloe Knapp (Jamestown) won 8-4 at number one and Tina Wertman (Rochester/Caledonia-Mumford) and Cassie Special (Williamsville/Williamsville South) won 8-5 at number three to give Cortland a 2-1 lead. Brockport (2-7, 0-3 SUNYAC) earned a point at second doubles with an 8-4 win by Elizabeth Bean and Autumne Venturino.

Five of Cortland's six singles wins came in straight sets. Hayes won 6-1, 6-1 at first singles and Knapp was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at second singles. Isabella Arrigo (Sauquoit/Sauquoit Valley) registered a 6-0, 6-4 win on the third flight and Wertman was a 6-2, 6-3 victor at fourth singles.

Olivia Terry (Hampton Bays) posted a 6-4, 6-2 win at sixth singles. The matchup between Special and Bean at fifth singles was tied after two sets - Bean winning the opening set, 6-3, and Special cruising to a 6-0 win in the second set. With the team result already decided, a super tiebreaker to 10 points was played in place of a third set. Special won that tiebreaker, 10-3, to claim the victory.
