Men's Soccer Tops Canton, 4-0, in Regular-Season Finale

CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team used four different goal scorers to top SUNY Canton, 4-0, in its regular-season finale on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
 
The Cardinals dominated the stat sheet, finishing with a 21-4 edge in shots and a 7-0 cushion in corner kicks.
 
Plattsburgh State rises to 11-6-1 overall with the win and next visits fourth-seeded The College at Brockport in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament first round on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. Canton drops to 7-8-1 overall with the loss and next hosts Paul Smith's College on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 4 p.m.
 
Sophomore midfielder Connor Nembach (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) opened scoring in the 19th minute, using passes from sophomore midfielder Jimmy Marchena (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) and senior forward Nicholas Laurent (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) to chip a shot into the right side of the goal. In the 40th minute, junior forward Alex Price (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) made it a 2-0 game, booting in a goal on a corner kick served in by freshman midfielder KyAir Hamilton (Mechanicville, N.Y./Shenendehowa).
 
Junior forward Chris Robertson (Thiells, N.Y./St. Joseph Regional [N.J.]) scored on a diving header with 1:59 left in the first half that was set up by a cross from sophomore forward Kyle Pfaff (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa). Finally, in the 50th minute, freshman midfielder Brody Cepiel (Mechanicville, N.Y./Stillwater) netted his first career goal, scoring on a counterattack. Marchena earned the assist on Cepiel's goal.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Kiernan Kirby (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) earned his third shutout win of the season for the Cardinals, making two saves, while junior goalkeeper Mouhammed Thiam turned aside three shots in the loss for Canton.
