Women’s Soccer suffers OT heartbreak against Potsdam, 1-0

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State pushed a worthy opponent to overtime for the second-consecutive day today, but was left continuing to search its first points in conference play, ultimately falling 1-0 against visiting Potsdam.

THE BASICS

LOCATION: Coyer Field - Buffalo, N.Y.
RECORDS: Potsdam (12-3-2/5-1-1), Buffalo State (3-11-1/0-7-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team was able to capitalize on its chance during an evenly contest regulation period.
  • The Bengals generated a strong chance early in the overtime session when Kyndal Hetzel (Hilton/Hilton) sent a bouncing cross into the box that Malyssa Chanthasoto (Norwood, NJ/NV at Old Tappan) headed off the cross bar.
  • Potsdam responded with a quality opportunity minutes later when a shot off the right wing glanced off the cross bar as well to keep the contest scoreless.
  • The Bears made no mistake in the 99th minute, however, when a run from the right side led to a cross in tight that was redirected with the outside of the outside of the right foot past a sprawling Buffalo State keeper.
  • Senior Nicole Torres (Wantagh/MacArthur) finished with four saves in her final game at Coyer Field.
  • Buffalo State held a 15-12 edge in shots attempts, including 6-5 on goal.

FOR THE FOES
  • Lexi Dean netted her sixth goal of the season with an assist from Rylie Murray.
  • Gabby Hobika made five saves for the shutout.
