Brockport Rolls Past Potsdam on Senior Day, 8-5

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team rolled past State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent SUNY Potsdam Saturday afternoon, winning by a final score of 8-5. The Golden Eagles move to 4-5 (2-0 SUNYAC) on the year, where the Bears fall to 3-6 (0-1).
 
Before the game, senior's Michael Caternolo, Colton Oliver, Dallas Meyers, Ben Thomas, Pat Quinlivan, Steven Gurin, and Zach Cook were honored for their hard work and dedication to the Brockport men's lacrosse program.
 
The Green and Gold trailed early, when Potsdam took a 1-0 advantage in the first eight minutes of action. The Golden Eagles responded to tie the game up at 1-1, when Liam O'Connor picked up a groundball off a Billy Coppola shot, that he ripped into the back of the net. Brockport kept rolling late in the first quarter as Brendan Halleran ripped top corner on a shot to take a 2-1 lead.
 
The offense stayed hot in the second quarter when Brian McGreevy went coast-to-coast and ripped a bounce shot past the goalie to take a 3-1 advantage. The Brockport defense buckled down and halted any offensive threat from the Bears. The Golden Eagles slipped late in the quarter as Potsdam notched a goal to have the halftime score set at, 3-2.
 
Both teams battled it out in the third quarter, but it was Brockport to score first to extend their lead to 4-2. After a caused turnover by Corey Choberka, Cook scooped up the loose ball and hit Coppola in front of the net to score the goal. The Golden Eagles suffered back-to-back goals late in the quarter to have the score set at 4-4 heading into the fourth.
 
Brockport dominated the final quarter scoring fourth straight goals that would lead to their eventual victory. Halleran started the scoring as he took advantage of an extra-man opportunity, to push past the Bears 5-4. Minutes later, Oliver notched his second goal on the game to pull away 6-4. Halleran and Oliver both scored another goal each to take a demanding 8-4 lead. Potsdam tallied on a late goal, but it was not enough as Brockport held onto the victory, 8-5.
 
The Golden Eagles held an advantage over Potsdam in groundballs (28-25), shots (44-31), and were also 2-4 on extra man opportunities. Brockport had much success in clearing the ball as they completed 21 of the 22 attempts, while holding Potsdam to 20 of the 26 attempts.
 
The offense was led by Halleran who notched three and handed out an assist. Oliver scored a pair of goals, while O'Connor scored one and dished out two assists.  Quinlivan and Gurin led the defense for the Green and Gold racking up five caused turnovers and seven groundballs. Caternolo dominated the faceoff circle going 12-17 on the day and picking up six groundballs.

Goalie, Dallas Meyers, had a solid outing in the cage for the Golden Eagles, racking up 16 saves over 60-minutes of play. 

The Brockport men's lacrosse team stays at home for their next conference match up against SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday April 11, with the time slated to start at 4 p.m.
