BROCKPORT, N.Y.— The College at Brockport women's soccer team fended off Oswego State on Friday for a crucial State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win, 1-0.
The victory moves Brockport to an 8-4-2 record and 3-2-1 mark in SUNYAC play. The Lakers fall to 6-5-1 on the year and 3-4 in league play.
The Green and Gold gained an early advantage when
Lindsey Lovett knocked in her third goal of the season after dribbling past an Oswego defender inside the box, giving the team a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. The Brockport defense was able to play a strong first half and challenged every shot by the opposition. The score remained unchanged going into the break, with Brockport holding a 1-0 lead.
The Golden Eagle defense continued to keep the Lakers off the board as the second half played on. Goalkeeper
Emma Nevers played in all 90 minutes and made five important saves to earn her first win of the season. The combined play of
Marissa Greiner,
Rian McMullen and
Olivia Kuter helped Nevers seal a 1-0 win.
"We can be proud of this result today," commented head coach
Mike Idland. "I thought the game came down to being the sharper team in front of the goal and we did that really well."
The Green and Gold are back in action for Senior Day on Saturday Oct. 14 when they host SUNY Cortland for a 1 p.m. matchup.
