Brockport, NY – Following a tough loss against their rival SUNY Geneseo, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team bounced back with a big 9-0 over the College at Brockport.
The Hawks only lost five games total in the three doubles matches as
Emi Lewis and
Courtney Koran won at first doubles 8-3,
Jenna Grandville and
Victoria Zezula won at second doubles 8-2, and
Carol Tyson and
Lindsay Haley held the golden eagles scoreless at third doubles with a score of 8-0.
The dominance continued into singles play as
Courtney Koran rolled through her match 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles.
Lindsay Haley only dropped one game at fifth singles as she won 6-1 6-0.
Carol Tyson and
Jenna Grandville both ceded two games in their victories at first and second singles, respectively. Tyson won 6-1, 6-1, and Grandville 6-0, 6-2.
Emi Lewis and
Ava Sweeney finished up the sweep for the Hawks as Lewis won 6-2, 6-2 at third singles while Sweeney won 6-3, 6-2 in her first appearance of the year at sixth singles.
"It was a good response from the team after yesterday's tough loss," said head coach
Rob Bruley. "The conditions were cold and windy, but the team played really aggressive in doubles and singles."
The Hawks now stand at 3-1 in conference play and get back on the court at home next Friday as they take on Oneonta in a Catskill Cup match at 5:30 p.m.
