Stone and Meager Reach Career Marks in 13-10 Win at Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Junior Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) became the 29th player in program history to record 100 career goals, and sophomore Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) reached 100 career points as the nationally 19th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team rallied late for a 13-10 victory at Oswego State Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action.

Stone finished with two goals and one assist for the Red Dragons (11-4, 6-0 SUNYAC) and now has 101 goals in her three-year career. Meager, who tallied one goal and one assist, became the 45th player to hit 100 career points and now has 80 goals and 20 assists.

Sophomore Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) led Cortland with three goals and one assist. Sophomore Baylee Ojeda (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) netted a pair of goals, and senior Kristyn Drake (Tully) contributed one goal and one assist. Seniors Katie Wolfe (East Amherst/Williamsville North) and Jaycie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga) and freshmen Hannah Tiso (Somers) and Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) each scored a goal, while sophomore Molly Newton (Skaneateles) chipped in with a pair of assists.

Freshman goalie Annie Casey (Bay Shore) made four saves, caused two turnovers and collected three ground balls for the Red Dragons. Junior Hailey Dobbins (Syracuse/CBA) scooped up four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Stone added four ground balls and two caused turnovers, and Meager secured four draw controls and caused two turnovers.

Teresa Shattuck recorded a game-high six points for the Lakers (8-5, 4-3 SUNYAC). Toni Laneve also netted three goals, Brigid Regin totaled four points on one goal and three assists, and Montana Garrett, Kamryn Sherman and Riley LaCava each notched a goal.

Goalie Angela Ponto registered 16 saves. Nicole Granteed collected four ground balls, Seanna Laneve earned three ground balls, and Regin and Zeina Akl each won three draws.

Oswego jumped out to a 3-0 lead before a four-goal Cortland run gave the Red Dragons a 4-3 lead at the 10:09 mark of the first half. The teams then traded the next four goals, leaving Cortland with a 6-5 lead at the break. The Lakers netted four of the first six goals of the second half and led, 9-8, with 8:29 to play.

The Red Dragons responded with a four-goal rally, two from Yonge and one each from Meager and Stone, to take a 12-9 lead with 5:07 on the clock. Sherman cut the lead to 12-10 at 3:31, but Annable completed the scoring at 1:40 for the 13-10 final.
