BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Fredonia was unable to sustain its good start Tuesday and dropped both ends of a SUNYAC softball doubleheader to Buffalo State, 7-5 and 9-1 in five innings.
The Blue Devils (6-15-1 overall, 0-6 SUNYAC) led 5-2 in the first game before Buffalo State rallied. The Bengals (6-11 overall, 4-2 SUNYAC) outscored their guests 14-1 the rest of the afternoon.
Fredonia had four doubles among its five hits in the opener. In addition to having one of the doubles, freshman
Eva FitzSimmons (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) collected two RBI.
Katie Yudin (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool),
Makenzie Keeler (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville DeWitt), and
Katelyn Dennis (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) had one double each.
Cassie Herman (Maybook, N.Y./Valley Central) had a single and an RBI and
Emma Isaac (Salamanca, N.Y./Salamanca) had an RBI. Yudin was the losing pitcher.
The Blue Devils were limited to five singles in the nightcap. Their only run, in the top of the second, was the result of two Buffalo State errors on the same play.
Sam Seegar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Starpoint) was tagged with the pitching loss.
Buffalo State earned two points in the Battle By The Lake series. Fredonia has already clinched its fourth straight Lake Erie Cup.
The Blue Devils have a pair SUNYAC road doubleheaders on the weekend docket -- Friday at Brockport, Saturday at Geneseo.
