Brockport Drops Conference Game on the Road to Plattsburgh, 7-4

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team fell to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe Plattsburgh State Saturday afternoon, by a final score of 7-4. The Golden Eagles drop to 5-7 (3-2 SUNYAC) in 2018, where the Cardinals move to 4-8 (3-1 SUNYAC).

Brockport stumbled in the opening quarter as Plattsburgh jumped out to a 1-0 lead three minutes into the action. Both teams battled it out for the remainder of the first, but it was the Cardinals who notched two more goals late in the first to take a 3-0 lead heading into the next frame.

It was a defensive battle in the second quarter, as both teams had trouble in finding the back of the net. Brockport found some success midway through the second, as Liam O'Connor scooped a loose ball in front of net and fired it into the back of the cage to set the score at 3-1. The Green and Gold fell slipped as Plattsburgh notched another goal to take a 4-1 advantage. The Golden Eagles answered late as Patrick Sheridan ripped one top corner to cut the deficit to 4-2 heading into halftime.

Brockport dominated the third quarter on both ends of the field. The Green and Gold chipped away as the lead, when Brendan Halleran beat the goalie low on his shot to now trail 4-3. The game was tied up 4-4, when Sheridan scored on a quick catch-and-shoot late in the quarter. The Brockport defense buckled down to keep the Cardinals off the score sheet to keep the score the same heading into the final quarter.

The Golden Eagles fought hard in the fourth quarter but they could not complete the comeback and fell short of the victory. The Green and Gold fell behind when Plattsburgh notched the go-ahead goal five minutes into play. The lead was extended when the Cardinals added two more goals to post a 7-4 lead. Brockport fought back but could not capitalize on any shots to lose by the eventual score.

Sheridan led the Golden Eagles offense with two goals, where Halleran and O'Connor notched one apiece. Billy Coppola and Colton Oliver handed out an assist each. Steven Gurin led the defense with three caused turnovers and five ground balls, where Joe Chiarmonte finished with three caused turnovers and picked up a ground ball.

Michael Caternolo continues to be dominate in the faceoff circle, as he went 9-15 on the game.

Goalie Dallas Meyers played the full 60-minutes in net and racked up 10 saves.

The Golden Eagles stay on the road as they face SUNY Oneonta next Saturday April 28th, with the game set to start at 1 p.m.
