Women's basketball sinks Lakers on the road

A Quick Look
A layup by senior Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) began a closing run in the opening quarter to help fuel a 50-35 win for the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team tonight at Oswego.  Corso finished the game with 13 points to lead the Red Dragons.

The Inside Story
Oneonta (5-9, 2-5 SUNYAC) scored 14 points in each of the first two quarters to double up Oswego (6-7, 2-5 SUNYAC) 28-14.  Senior Casey Hayes (New Hyde Park/Sewanhaka) posted six points while junior Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) added four points to pace the Red Dragons in the second quarter.

Oneonta maintained its 14-point lead when the final buzzer sounded at the end of the third quarter.  Senior Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) scored five straight points midway through the quarter to push the Red Dragons' lead to 15 points after the Lakers pulled to within 10 points.

Oneonta closed out the game with a 15-14 final quarter to record the victory.  The Lakers made a final push and cut its deficit to 10 points once again, but a 13-4 run by Oneonta secured victory.  Freshman Margaret Nardelli (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) led the way with a pair of three-pointers including the trey that gave the Red Dragons a 19-point cushion.  Nardelli finished the contest with 10 points.
