CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland women's tennis team opened up a 2-1 lead after doubles play and won three of four singles matches, including the top three flights, as the Red Dragons closed their fall regular-season schedule with a 6-3 win over visiting Oswego.

Cortland finishes the fall dual schedule with a 6-5 record. Its match at Hamilton on Monday, Oct. 9, has been canceled. The Red Dragons return to action in the opening round of the SUNYAC Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11:30 a.m. versus either Fredonia or Geneseo at the Binghamton Tennis Club.

Mia Hayes (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) and Nikaylah Williams (Wheatley Heights/Half Hollow Hills West) won 8-1 at first doubles, and each won by clean 6-0, 6-0 scores at first and second singles, respectively.

Isabella Arrigo (Sauquoit/Sauquoit Valley) and Tina Wertman (Rochester/Caledonia-Mumford) posted a 9-7 victory at second doubles. They led 7-4 before Oswego rallied to tie at 7-7, but they recovered to win the next game and then break the Lakers' serve to win the match.

Cortland clinched the team victory when Olivia Terry (Hampton Bays) won 6-2, 6-2 at sixth singles. Shortly thereafter, Kelliann Camp (Sayville) won 6-3, 6-0 at third singles.

Oswego (3-7) earned a point at third doubles when Erin Vargo and Jill Burns won, 8-2. The Lakers claimed two singles victories. Haru Kobayashi won 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles, and Bridget Bender closed the competition by earning a 2-6, 6-1, 6-5 win at fourth singles. Bender rallied from down 5-3 in the third, and the set ended at 6-5 when Cortland retired.
