OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team defeated Hartwick, 13-8, in its season opener on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Lakers open the season at 1-0, while Hartwick falls to 0-1.

Oswego and Hartwick were locked in a back-and-forth battle for most of the game. The Lakers scored four unanswered goals and held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, but both teams scored a goal apiece in the second and two goals each in the third to bring the score to 7-5 entering the final quarter. With six different Lakers scoring in the fourth quarter, their strong final push helped them clinch the win over the Hawks.

Five Lakers ended the game with two points each. Bobby Emerson collected two goals, Tyler Nason dished out two assists and Teddy Phillips, Caleb Alford and Kyle O'Connor each recorded a goal and an assist. O'Connor also took control at the X for the Lakers, winning 16 of his 25 faceoffs.

Goalie Kevin O'Donnell played all 60 minutes in the net for the Lakers, making 11 saves and earning the win.

As a team, the Lakers outshot the Hawks, 53-30. Oswego was also able to take advantage of an extra-man opportunity in the first quarter, on a goal by Connors, while Hartwick could not capitalize on any of its three advantages.

Oswego returns to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as it faces Ithaca. The game is the start of a three-game nonconference road trip, as the Lakers face Ithaca, Morrisville and St. Joseph's College.
