St. Lawrence, Worcester State top Softball on Day 2 in FLA

CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State dropped a 4-2 decision to St. Lawrence and then came up short in a slugfest against Worcester State, falling 13-7 in the late game of today's set at the Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, Fla.
 
GAME #1 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Abijah Adams (Rochester/Greece-Arcadia) continued to swing a hot bat for the Bengals, going 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
  • Kaelee Lynch (Atwater, CA/Buhuch Colony) was 2 for 3, and Melissa Woods (Lakeview/Frontier) was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
  • Marissa Hayes (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was saddled with the loss, throwing 3 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and four runs.  Hannah Dunlap (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) allowed just one hit in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
  • Buffalo State and St. Lawrence traded nine hits apiece, but a four-run, five-hit fourth inning by the Saints proved to be the difference.
  • The Bengals opened the scoring on an RBI double by Adams in the second and then cut the deficit with a run in the sixth, but were retired in order in the seventh to end the game.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Taylor Armijo was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored.
  • Caroline Young earned the win in the circle, scattering nine hits with five strikeouts.

  • Hannah Dunlap (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) and Julia Blujus (Amherst/Sacred Heart) each went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Buffalo State.
  • Kaelee Lynch (Atwater, CA/Buhuch Colony) was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored, and Danielle Szymkowiak (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) also collected a pair of hits and scored a run.
  • Cassie O'Hern (Augusta, NJ/High Point) had an RBI-double and scored twice, and Nicole Adams (Lockport/Starpoint) had a double and drove in two runs.
  • Adams was credited with the loss, allowing five runs on three hits in the first inning before Dunlap took over and threw 3 2/3 innings of relief, surrendering nine hits and eight runs.
  • Hayes finished the game, tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings.
  • Worcester State jumped out to a 9-0 lead with five runs on four hits and two walks in the top of the first inning, before plating four more runs in the second inning.
  • The Bengals jumped back in the game with a six-run third inning that featured five hits, including three doubles.
  • The Lancers answered in the fourth inning, however, pushing the lead to 13-6 with four runs on five hits and an error.
  • Buffalo State added a single run in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Blujus, but could not pull any closer.
  • Worcester State outhit the Bengals, 16-10.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Sydney Despres and Dakota Smith-Porter each went 4 for 4 to lead Worcester State at the plate.
  • Smith Porter also earned the win in the circle.
