Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lakers Edged by Clarkson on the Road

POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Oswego State women's lacrosse team lost a back-and-forth matchup at Clarkson University on Wednesday afternoon by a 10-9 score.  The loss is the first of the season for the Lakers (2-1) while Clarkson improves to 2-1 on the young season.

Oswego got off to a strong start in scoring the first two goals of the contest within the first three minutes of action.  Senior Gemma O'Kane scored her sixth goal of the season on an assist from Teresa Shattuck followed by a free-position goal from Brigid Regin just twenty-five seconds later.  Clarkson would cut the lead back to one with a goal before Toni Laneve would score from Shattuck and Riley Jaquin would net another free-position goal to put Oswego up 4-1 at the 23:56 mark.

After another Clarkson tally, Jaquin would score a man-up goal from Shattuck to keep the Lakers up by three with 19 minutes remaining in the half.  The next 15 minutes saw Clarkson put four-straight points up to grab a 6-5 advantage with four minutes to go.  Oswego would tie the game heading into the halftime break on Laneve's second goal of the game by way of Shattuck's fourth assist.

Montana Garrett kicked off scoring in the second half on a goal that was again assisted by Shattuck at 28:52.  Clarkson would take control of the contest with a run of three goals to go up 9-7 with just under twenty minutes left in the game.  O'Kane would cut the lead back to one on a free-position goal at 11:33 but Clarkson would answer a few minutes later to keep the lead at two.

With 5:32 left in the contest, Jordyn Dala would score her first collegiate goal to put the Lakers in striking distance, but the Clarkson defense would force turnovers on the final two Laker offensive possessions to ice the contest.

The Lakers remained close thanks to 15 saves from senior Angela Ponto who finished with a .600 save percentage for the outing.  .

Oswego is back in action at 2 p.m. on  March 11 when it travels to Elmira College to take on the Soaring Eagles.
