Peterson Leads UMW Men's Basketball to 94-42 Win Over Buffalo State

Senior forward Daniel Peterson scored a game-high 22 points in leading the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 94-42 victory over Buffalo State University on Sunday afternoon in Newport News, Va. The Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season.

UMW roared ahead from the start, scoring the first seven points and leading, 22-5, with 9:36 remaining. A 15-0 Eagle run pushed the margin to 39-14 with 1:09 left, before the Bengals scored five straight to trim the halftime margin to 39-19.

In the second, UMW dominated from the opening whistle, scoring the first 24 points of the frame, and keeping Buffalo State off the board for the first eight minutes of action. 

Peterson led the Eagles with 22 points on 9-12 shooting, and added seven rebounds. Sophomore Dorian Davis scored 13, while Zack Blue and Cameron McCravy each had 11, and Greg Rowson added 10 in the balanced attack. The Eagles shot 56.5% from the floor (35-62), making 2-10 three pointers and 22-28 free throws. Buffalo State shot 23.5% (12-51), making 5-26 three pointers and 13-16 free throws. The Eagles forced 25 turnovers, while committing just 10.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday night when they visit Southern Virginia University at 7:00 p.m.
