Rice’s Hat Trick Leads Women’s Soccer Past Fredonia (N.Y.) on Final Day of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament

ERIE, Pa. --  Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Sydney Rice (North Royalton) scores three goals to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Fredonia (N.Y.) at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament.

BW (2-0) scored 14 minutes into the game but would not score again until the second half where it added two goals in the 47th and 55th minute. Fredonia (0-2) tied it up with a goal in the first half and added its final goal just seconds after the Yellow Jackets took a 3-1 lead.

First Half (1-1)

  • Rice scored her third goal of the season with an assist from fellow All-OAC selection junior defender Ella Barth (Highland/Mayfield) at the 14:17 mark
  • Katie Sellers quickly tied things up for the Blue Devils with a goal at 17:32

Second Half (BW, 3-2)

  • Rice found the back of the net again at 47:53 and then scored her OAC-leading fifth goal of the season at the 53:10 mark thanks to another assist from Barth to put the Yellow Jackets up 3-1
  • Alyssa Sabato, assisted by Gabby Irwin, scored at 55:36 for another Fredonia goal

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, September 5 when they host Oberlin College in a non-conference matchup in the season home opener at Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
