PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Sophomore
Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) went a combined 5-for-7 at the plate including a two-run homer in the Plattsburgh State baseball doubleheader sweep over Saint Michael's Tuesday evening at Chip Cummings Field.
Plattsburgh State is now 9-21 overall while Saint Michael's moves to 6-26
GAME ONE: Plattsburgh State 12, Saint Michael's 3
Kowalowski went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs in game one.
Sophomore
Stephen Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) was 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs and one run.
The Cardinals hit the ground running as they recorded five runs on five hits in the first inning.
Bryant scored on a wild pitch to start and senior
Joe Deland (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) also scored off a wild pitch.
Freshman
Simon Alvarez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Arlington) doubled to left field to plate senior
Noah Clark (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) while Alvarez scored off a single by sophomore
Kentaro Mori (Tokyo, Japan / Joto).
Kowalowski recorded the Cardinals fifth run off a throwing error.
The Purple Knights scored two runs in the second to cut Plattsburgh State's lead to three.
Clark doubled to left field to plate junior
Jon Craft (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) in the bottom of the second to take a 6-2 edge.
Kowalowski scored again in the bottom of the third off another error.
Bryant recorded a two-run single that scored freshman
Erik Matz (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) and sophomore
James Hartunian (Delmar, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central) for a 9-2 advantage.
Saint Michael's scored off a double to left field in the top of the fourth.
With two on base Hartunian stepped up and hit a home run deep to left field that plated Kowalowski and Matz for a 12-3 lead.
Plattsburgh State's pitching staff was able to hold off the Purple Knights and the Cardinals took the nine-run win.
Sophomore
Justin Adams (Valhalla, N.Y. / Westlake) pitched two innings and scattered two hits, two runs and walked three.
Sophomore
Alec Fauvell (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) picked up his first win after pitching four inning and gave up two hits, one run, walked one and struck out three.
Senior
Jacob Stein (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) pitched one inning, gave up one hit and struck out one.
GAME TWO: Plattsburgh State 8, Saint Michael's 5
Craft and Matz both went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Kowalowski went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and three RBIs including a double to center field in the second inning to plate Alvarez for the Cardinals first run of the game.
Matz doubled to score Mori and Kowalowski and Craft had a double that scored Bryant and Deland for a 5-0 lead.
Saint Michael's logged four runs in the top of the third off two singles and a sacrifice fly to come within one run of the lead.
Alvarez scored again in the bottom of the third off an error for a 6-4 edge.
The Purple Knights scored off another single in the fifth.
Kowalowski hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth that plated Mori and gave the Cardinals their three-run win after the Plattsburgh State defense held off Saint Michael's.
Sophomore
Connor Lyons (Brookhaven, N.Y. / Bellport) pitched four innings and scattered seven hits, four runs and walked one.
Stein pitched one inning and gave up one hit and one run.
Sophomore
Brantley Marion (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) picked up the save after pitching two innings and striking out five batters.
Plattsburgh State is away Friday, April 27 for a SUNYAC game against Fredonia at 3 p.m.
