OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team won their first conference game of the season Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Oswego State at Laker Soccer Field.
Plattsburgh State improved to 5-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the SUNYAC, while Oswego State is now 4-3-1 and 1-2 in the SUNYAC.
The Cardinals scored their first goal six minutes into the game. Senior
Sarah Haight (East Meredith, N.Y. / Charlotte Valley) scored her third goal of the season off a through ball from
Madeline Saccocio (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schalmont) and put it in to the top right corner.
Saccocio scored her ninth goal of the season in the 41
st minute off a rebound from
Katie Matott (Rouses Point, N.Y. / Northeastern Clinton) to make the game 2-0 before heading into halftime.
The Cardinals out-shot the Lakers 6-4 in the first half with two being on goal and three were blocked shots.
The second half was a clash of Cardinals verse Lakers, each with nine shots and a total of eight combined saves.
The game remained scoreless in the second half resulting in a tally in the win column for Plattsburgh State.
Nichole Gibson (Arkport, N.Y. / Arkport) logged her fourth shutout of the season, making six saves in her 90:00 minutes in goal. Gibson is now 5-3-1 for the season.
Haight recorded five shots, Saccocio and
Jessica Reid (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) each had three, Mattot had two and
Sarah Bonner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / Yorktown) and
Rachael Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y. / Arlington ) each had one.
Plattsburgh State is on the road Saturday, Sept. 30, to play SUNY Cortland at 1 p.m.
