Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 14 Men’s Soccer tops New Paltz to close SUNYAC regular season unbeaten

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Nationally-No. 14-ranked Buffalo State pushed its unbeaten streak to 14 games and closed out an undefeated SUNYAC regular season with a 1-0 home victory over New Paltz today at Coyer Field.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE:  #14 Buffalo State – 1, New Paltz - 0
LOCATION: Coyer Field – Buffalo, NY
RECORDS: Buffalo State (13-1-3/6-0-3), New Paltz (6-10-0/2-7-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State dominated the opening half and produced the only offense it would need in the 20th minute.  Luke Pavone (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) sent a free kick from 35 yards on the far left wing through traffic and inside the far post for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
  • The Bengals sat back for much of the second half, but still produced a pair of quality scoring chances in the closing minutes.  Brandon Galanti (Hamburg/Frontier) was thwarted by the keeper on a short break, and then a header by Robert Williamson (Fishkill/John Jay) off the ensuing corner kick just missed the mark.
  • Buffalo State ended with a 21-8 advantage in shot attempts.  New Paltz's lone shot on goal came in desperation in the final seconds which was easily handled by Andreas Queen (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) to ensure his record-extending 10th shutout of the season.

NOTEWORTHY
  • Queen and the Bengals have not conceded a goal in 468 minutes and four seconds of playing time dating back to a 2-1 victory over Oswego on Oct. 6.
UP NEXT
Buffalo State will visit Alfred University for a non-conference game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. to close out the regular season.  The Bengals will then advance to the SUNYAC playoffs with date and opponent to be determined.
