Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball edged out at home by Geneseo

In a game that saw seven ties and 13 lead changes, it was the final lead change midway through the second half that lifted visiting SUNY Geneseo to a 67-62 win tonight against host SUNY Oneonta.  The Red Dragons had opportunities down the stretch to tie the game, but the Knights converted 5-of-6 free throws to secure its victory.

The statistics of the game were relatively even.  The only real advantage Geneseo (3-2, 1-0 SUNYAC) held was at the foul line outscoring Oneonta (3-2, 0-1 SUNYAC) 20-13.  Both teams shot 37 percent and the rebounds were 40-38 in favor of the guests.

Oneonta had two players reach double figures in the game led by sophomore Ian Schultz (Clifton Park/CBA)'s 14 points.  Junior Matthew Boyd (Hempstead/Half Hollow Hills East) added 11 points, five steals and four assists.

Junior Zack Panebianco led all scorers with 21 points including 14 in the second half to fuel the Knights' comeback.  Panebianco made four of Geneseo's seven shots from long distance.  Classmate CJ Burke contributed 10 points and a game high 10 rebounds.

After 13 minutes of action in the opening half, the score was deadlocked at 20 apiece before Oneonta scored nine unanswered to create some breathing room.  Freshman Andres Rivera (Bronx/Walton) came off the bench to spark the Red Dragons scoring six of the nine points.  Sophomore Carson Jacobs (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson) capped the run with a three-pointer.

Another 6-2 spurt by Oneonta pushed its lead to ten points before Geneseo countered with the final six points of the half to close its deficit to 32-28 at the break.

The game was tied twice more in the first seven minutes of the second half as each team kept countering the other where neither team could take control.  It wasn't until a basket by Burke at the 10:21 mark did Geneseo take the lead for good.

The Red Dragons will host Brockport tomorrow afternoon beginning at 3pm.
