PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Plattsburgh State (7-2, 1-0 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-4, 0-1) 3-0 in the SUNYAC opener on a sweltering Saturday afternoon. Sean Cray had a goal and an assist for the Cardinals.
 
The teams combined for just five shots in the opening 45 minutes. The Cardinals jumped in front at 17:09 as Kyle Pfaff scored on a shot from the left side of the box. Bears sophomore goalie Jakeb Mitchell (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) and Plattsburgh keeper Patrick Feeley each made a save in the first half. Plattsburgh took the 1-0 lead into the break.
 
At the 65:48 mark, Cray finished a pass from the left side to double the lead. Almost exactly 10 minutes later, Cray fed Juan Rodriguez in close to finish the scoring at 3-0.
 
Mitchell closed the day with one stop, while Feeley earned the shutout with two.
 
Plattsburgh edged Potsdam 8-5 in shots, but Potsdam racked up nine corner kicks to the Cardinals' five.
 
The Bears are back in action next weekend when they host SUNY Cortland and Oswego State. Potsdam faces the Red Dragons at 3 p.m. on Friday and the Lakers at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
