Women’s Lacrosse dominates Houghton in opener, 21-0

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Christina Krowel (Amseterdam/B.H.-B.L.) scored five times while freshman Kayla Rose (Lancaster/Lancaster) and Morgan Hogue (Painted Post/Corning) each tallied six points as Buffalo State cruised to a 21-0 victory over visiting Houghton in today's season-opener on Coyer Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Krowel finished with five goals on eight shots.
  • Ally Ruggieri (Brockport/Brockport) tallied four goals and one assist, while Rose finished with four goals and two assists in first collegiate game.
  • Haley Kempf (Buffalo/Mount Mercy) scored her first collegiate goal and Kendall Skuse (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) netted three goals.
  • Hogue and Nina Schaefer (Lafayette/Lafayette) each scored a pair of goals. Hogue also finished with four assists.
  • Buffalo State took control early by winning the first six draw controls and used the momentum to take a commanding 14-0 lead at halftime.
  • The Bengals scored two goals in the first three minutes of the second half and never looked back, cruising for the shutout.
  • Buffalo State finished with a 30-10 advantage in shots and an 18-5 advantage in draw controls in the game.
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) finished with four saves to preserve the win.

  • Sarah Olandt finished with five saves in net for the Highlanders.
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • Krowel became the 10th player in school history to score 100 career goals.  She now as 102 in 51 games.
  • The victory marks the first career win for interim head coach Ashley O'Brien.
  • Buffalo State recorded its first shutout since 2002.
