Lakers take two from Bears

OSWEGO, N.Y.—Oswego State (11-7, 4-2 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam softball team (3-15, 0-4) 8-0 in both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomores Megan Fish (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville North) and Lucy Condon (Kitchener, Ontario/St. David Catholic) were 3-for-4 and 2-for-5 on the afternoon, respectively.
 
The Lakers opened game one with five runs in the bottom of the first. They then added a run in the second and the final two in the third. Oswego pitcher Rebecca Vilchez was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Laker first baseman Gabriella Vertuccio was 2-for-2, including a three-run homer, with two runs scored and four RBI. Condon was 1-for-3 for the Bears and Fish was 2-for-2.
 
Potsdam senior pitcher Samantha Hubinsky (Gansevoort, N.Y./South Glens Falls) (1-5) allowed eight runs on 11 hits and two walks in 2.2 innings. Junior Alissa McCauley (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out one. Vilchez (8-4) went the distance for Oswego, scattering four hits.
 
 
In game two, the Lakers broke open a 2-0 contest with four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth for the 8-0 victory. Vilchez was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Vertuccio went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run. Fish and Condon were each 1-for-2 for the Bears.
 
Fish (0-3) allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings and McCauley allowed a double and a homer to the two batters she faced in the bottom of the sixth. Jessica Roe (1-1) allowed just two hits over five innings, while striking out five. Angela Frampton pitched a perfect top of the sixth.
 
The Bears are now off until Saturday when they head to Plattsburgh for a doubleheader beginning at noon. The following afternoon, they return home to host SUNY Geneseo at the same time.
