Brockport Shines on Senior Day

 
 
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team used 13 goals in the first half to beat State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent SUNY New Paltz Saturday afternoon, by a final score a 19-8. The Golden Eagles move to 7-8 (6-2 SUNYAC) on the year, where the Hawks from to 5-9 (1-7 SUNYAC).

Before the game, senior's Megan Klein, Dana Kiselica, Tess Knight, Andrea Zlinsky, Taylor Thomas, Samantha Dooling, and Sarah Brown were honored for their hard work and dedication to the Brockport women's lacrosse program.
 
The Green and Gold started hot as they jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the first six minutes of action. Sara Grapevine notched the first goal of the game 19 seconds in and Brockport never looked back. Chloe Kurst kept the scoring going with a quick catch-and-shoot goal, followed by a Taylor Thomas goal 13 seconds later. Jade Williams answered right after for the Golden Eagles as she beat the keeper with her shot, to have Victoria Thompson notched a free position goal 13 seconds later, to hold a commanding 5-0 lead. Hannah Cullen ended the run as she ripped her shot high past the goalie to pull away 6-0. Both teams added three goals apiece over the next 10 minutes of action to move the score to 9-3. Brockport closed out the first half by adding four more goals to post a demanding 13-3 lead, heading into halftime.
 
The Golden Eagles went toe-to-toe with the Hawks, as they held a slight 6-5 edge on scoring during the second half. The Hawks open up the scoring early, to have Thompson answer with a free position goal, to move the score to 14-4. The Green and Gold slipped as New Paltz notched a pair of goals to cut the deficit to 14-6. Heather Conklin responded as capitalized off a failed clear attempt by the Hawks, to increase the score to 15-6. Both teams fought hard until the final whistle, but Brockport ended the game with two goals from Samantha Dooling and Thomas to win the game, 19-8.
 
Thompson was unstoppable on the offensive end today, as she racked up four goals and was a perfect 2-2 on the free-position. Thomas finished second in goals with three, while Grapevine, Kurst, Conklin, and Dooling all finished with two each.
 
Conklin led the defense with five caused turnovers, two groundballs, and winning six draw controls. Tess Knight, Nikki Nolan, and Nicole Geoghan all ended with two caused turnovers each.
 
Goalie Sarah Brown had an impressive outing on her senior day totaling 19 saves through 60-minutes of play.
 
With the win, the Brockport women's lacrosse team locks in the third spot in the SUNYAC standings and will host Buffalo State this upcoming Tuesday May 1.
