No. 14 Brockport Trips Against No. 11 Ithaca, 21-8

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team succumbed to No. 11 Ithaca College Sunday afternoon, as they lost by a final score of 21-8. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-2 in 2018, where the Bombers move to 2-0.

Brockport fell behind early in the opening half, as Ithaca notched back-to-back goals to hold a 2-0 lead. The deficit was cut to 2-1 as Heather Conklin beat a defender and slipped her shot high past the visiting goalie. The Green and Gold continued to suffer as the Bombers doubled up with goals to extend their lead to 4-1. Moments later, Jade Williams capitalized on a free position attempt to put Brockport back within striking distance, by a score of 4-2.  Brockport fought hard but found no success in freezing the Ithaca offense, as they tallied seven more goals to set the halftime score at 11-4.

The Golden Eagles slipped in the second half, when the Bombers slotted a quick goal to extend their lead to 12-4. Sara Grapevine answered for Brockport as she wrapped around the right side of the net and put her shot low past the goalie. After Ithaca added two goals, the Green and Gold answered with two goals from Taylor Thomas and Cheyenne Burnham, to bring the score to 14-7. All of Brockport's attempt to slow down Ithaca failed, as they pulled away to win the game 21-8.

Andrea Zlinsky lead the way with two goals, and Williams and Grapevine accounting for a goal and an assist each. Nikki Nolan finished the game with two caused turnovers and picked up two groundballs.

Sara Shaddock played 53 minutes in the cage for the Golden Eagles racking up 10 saves, with Sarah Brown playing seven minutes and adding three saves.

Brockport hits the road for the next five games, with their first contest against Salisbury on Friday March 26, with the time slated to start at 3 p.m.
