Brockport Tames the Tigers, 20-9

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team topped Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Wednesday afternoon, winning by a final score of 20-9. The Golden Eagles move to 5-7 on the year, where the Tigers fall to 7-8.
 
Brockport trailed early in the first half as RIT jumped out to a 2-1 lead. The Green and Gold dug deep and pieced together a seven-goal run to take a 8-2 advantage. Jade Williams ignited the run with a pair of goals to take a 3-2 lead. Chloe Kurst got in on the scoring next, then Heather Conklin notched a free position goal, to hold a 5-2 advantage. Sarah Grapevine, Williams, and Conklin all slotted one past the visiting goalie to round out the run to widen the gap even further. Both teams traded two goals apiece to move the score to 10-4. Taylor Thomas ended the first half with a man-down goal to hold a 11-4 heading into the halftime break.
 
The Golden Eagles came out hot in the second half scoring eight goals to the Tigers one. Conklin started the rally with beating the keeper high on her shot, followed by another Kurst goal. Victoria Thompson cashed-in next for the Green and Gold, to then have Hannah Cullen beat the goalie low on a free position shot. Andrea Zlinsky and Kurst notched back-to-back goals, to pull away 17-5. Thomas ended the run with a pair of goals to give the Golden Eagles a demanding 19-5 lead. RIT fought back and scored four goals, but Briana Davies iced the victory with a last second goal to give Brockport the win, 20-9.
 
The Green and Gold dominated the game from start to finish beat the tigers in shots (44-26), ground balls (27-19), and draw controls (17-13).
 
Thomas led the Brockport offense with five goals and one assist. Conklin, Kurst, and Williams all finished the game with three goals each, while Grapevine ended with two goals and three assists.  Nikki Nolan led the defense as she finished with three caused turnovers with two ground balls.
 
Goalie Sarah Brown played the full 60-minutes in net racking up 11 saves on the day.
 
Brockport travels home for their next game against SUNY Potsdam this Saturday April 21, with the game set to start at 1 p.m.
