FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia sophomore right-hander
Sam Seegar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Starpoint) won pitcher's duel, 1-0, in the second game of a SUNYAC doubleheader with Oswego Friday at Blue Devil Field. Oswego won the opener, 4-1.
Seegar bested Oswego lefty Rebecca Vilchez in a battle of four-hitters. Seegar struck out six and walked none while Vilchez fanned two. The only run scored in the game was unearned. Fredonia senior
Katelyn Dennis (Webster, N.Y./Webster) reached base on an error
The difference was an unearned run in the Fredonia second, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a two-out single to center by freshman
Eva FitzSimmons (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport).
In the opener, Oswego jumped into a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Three of the four runs off losing pitcher
Katie Yudin (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) were unearned. The Devils managed just five hits, including a double and single by
Katelyn Dennis (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder), which extended her hitting streak to eight straight games. Her double down the left-field line in the seventh led to Fredonia's only run, which scored on a single to center by
Lauren Pixley (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier). The Blue Devils brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the seventh but left two runners stranded.
Dennis had a single in the second game to extend her hitting streak to nine games.
