Saccocio Scores 13th Goal Of Season In Oneonta Shutout

PLATTSBURGH, NY- Senior Madeline Saccocio (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schalmont) scored her 13th goal of the season in the Plattsburgh State women's soccer 3-0 win over SUNY Oneonta Friday afternoon at the Field House Complex.

Plattsburgh State improved to 8-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the SUNYAC while Oneonta moved to 1-9-1 and 1-4-0 in the SUNYAC.

Senior Cait Gagen (East Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse-Minoa) put the Cardinals on the board first in the 15th minute with a shot from the right side of the 18-yard box and put it in the top left corner. Senior Sarah Haight (East Meredith, N.Y. / Charlotte Valley) picked up the assist.

Haight scored five minutes later off a breakaway, faking out the keeper and putting the ball into the back of the net with the assist from Saccocio.

The Cardinals headed into halftime leading 2-0 and out-shot the Red Dragons by one.

The start of the second half was a battle of the red, each team fighting for possession and most of the play staying in the middle. Both teams played with more vigor, each recording three shots within minutes of one another.

Saccocio's goal came in the 73rd minute when she tapped the ball in from the center of the 18 off a pass from Gagen.

Saccocio's goal tied her career best from last year and moved her into fifth place for most career goals in Plattsburgh State women's soccer history with 34.

Plattsburgh State out-shot Oneonta 11-5 in the second half and 17-10 overall.
