Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball upended at home by Brockport

A Quick Look
In a matchup between the two top teams in the SUNYAC, it was the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team that faltered at home tonight to Brockport 85-75.  Junior Andres Rivera (Bronx, NY/Walton) led all scorers with 25 points to go with a game high 12 rebounds.  The loss for the Red Dragons snapped its five-game win streak putting their overall record at 13-5 and 9-2 in the conference.

"Tonight, was a really hard-fought game," stated Head Coach Cameron Conover.  "I thought we played tough, but ultimately their pressure wore us down and forced us to turn the ball over uncharacteristically, which then makes it really hard to beat a good team like Brockport.  We need to move on quickly and make sure we are ready tomorrow for a Geneseo team that has won two big conference games in a row."

The Inside Story
Tonight's game was decided in the final 10 minutes of the contest.  The two squads battled evenly for about 30 minutes before Brockport (17-3, 12-1 SUNYAC) began to gain control.

Back-to-back three-pointers by junior Dylan Trombley (Moriah, NY/Moriah) pulled Oneonta to within three points, 56-53, at the 9:53 mark of the second half.  Trombley finished the game with nine points off the bench.

A 15-5 run by the Golden Eagles over the next five minutes opened the game up giving them some breathing room at 75-60.  Graduate student Tyler Collins led the way with seven points during the stretch.  Collins led Brockport with 22 points including 13 in the second half.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the opening three minutes of the game.  Brockport continued to expand its lead to as many as nine points at 19-10 with just over 12 minutes to go in the half.

Oneonta scored eight unanswered points to cut its deficit to one point.  The run was fueled by a pair of three-pointers by Trombley and senior Kevin Mackin (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet).  Mackin finished the game with 11 points.

A 13-2 run by Brockport gave them its largest lead of the first half at 32-20 with under five minutes to go.  Oneonta countered with a 15-4 run of its own to close the half trailing 36-35 going into the break.

Just the Stats
There was a total of 62 free throws shot in the game with Brockport converting 24-of-37 and Oneonta making 19-of-25.  The two teams shot nearly identical from the field overall and from behind the arc.
