Women’s Basketball stumbles against Oswego, 79-67

OSWEGO, N.Y.— Liv LeBaron (Corning/Corning East) and Katie Villarini (Hamburg/Hamburg) combined for 33 points and 20 rebounds and led the Bengals on a fourth-quarter rally that fell short in a 79-67 loss to host Oswego in SUNYAC action this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • LeBaron notched her 14th-career double-double with a team-high 24 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Villarini added 11 points, on 5 for 6 shooting from the charity stripe, to go along with seven rebounds, five steals and three assists.
  • Tori Hackett (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) and Jenna Lee (Wallkill/Wallkill) each chipped in seven points and six rebounds.
  • Anasah DeMember (Elmira/Elmira) tallied eight points, two rebounds and two steals off of the bench.
  • Buffalo State surrendered an early run but responded by scoring six of the final 10 points to trim the deficit to 16-9 at the first intermission.
  • The Bengals cut the lead to 19-18 on a layup by Hackett with 2:56 left in the first half, but the Lakers connected on a three-point field goal with less than a minute remaining to give themselves a 26-22 edge at halftime.
  • Oswego outscored Buffalo State 27-18 in the third frame to claim a 53-40 lead at the final intermission.
  • The Bengals scored 13 of the first 20 points in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 60-53 with just over six minutes to play in the contest.
  • The Lakers responded by holding Buffalo State to only two points in the final 2:33 to clinch the victory.
  • The Bengals outscored Oswego 16-6 in second-chance points and 13-2 in bench productions.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Five Lakers scored in double-figures, led by Quincey Zimmerman who finished with 24 points and seven rebounds.
  • Sydni Eure added 18 points and 13 rebounds.
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • With her 24 points against Oswego, Liv LeBaron moves up to ninth in program history with 1,097 points in 62 games at Buffalo State.
