POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams hosted the North Country Invitational this weekend. The Clarkson University men's and women's team placed first with scores of 637 and 546, respectively. Both Saint Michael's College teams were second with a men's score of 460 and a women's score of 470. The Bears men finished third with a score of 293, while the women matched them with a score of 395. Genesee Community College was fourth with the men totaling 160 points and the women earning 85.
 
Senior Iris Curtis (Lewiston, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield), senior Allison Medley (Watertown, N.Y./ Watertown), junior Emily Pitz (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) and senior Samantha Coombs (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) teamed up to take second in the 400 Medley Relay (4:14.75). Coombs was first in the 50 Free (25.40) and second in the 100 Free (54.90). Curtis placed second in 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:21.96. Pitz finished second in both the 100 Butterfly (1:04.85) and the 200 Butterfly (2:21.00). Medley took second in the 100 Breaststroke (1:11.16) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:37.62). Sophomore Brianna Iverson (Antwerp, N.Y./Indian River) and junior Cassie Hunter (Castleton, N.Y./ Maple Hill) teamed with Coombs and Curtis to finish second in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:47.49). Freshman Zoe Gliganic (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) won the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 167.10. Curtis, Medley, Hunter and Coombs won the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:55.39. Curtis swam away with first place in the 100 Backstroke (1:02.91). Coombs won the 200 Free (2:00.92) and Gliganic claimed the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 181.35. 
 
Sophomore Nate Young (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City), freshman Daniel Russotti (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), junior Zack Martin (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and junior William Stephens III (Medina, N.Y./Medina) were third in the 400 Medley Relay (3:50.45). Sophomore Brett Worden (Croghan, N.Y./Beaver River) fought for a second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:12.21). Young took fourth in the 200 Backstroke (2:14.74) and the 100 Backstroke (59.95).  Russotti was fourth in the 100 Breaststroke (1:02.71) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:22.78). Junior Andrew McEwen (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) joined with Young, Russotti and Martin to take third in the 200 Medley Relay (1:45.00). Junior Nicolas Haines (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) was fourth in the 1650 Free (18:47.75). 
 
The Bears are back in action Dec. 6 – Dec. 7, when they travel to Cortland to compete in the Cortland Invitational on Friday at 4 p.m. and then resume action Saturday morning.
