BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team gets beaten by Nazareth College Tuesday afternoon, by a final score of 11-5. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-2 on the season, where the Golden Flyers move to 1-2.
Brockport started hot as they took an early 1-0 lead 26 seconds into the first quarter. Goalie
Dallas Meyers hit
Patrick Sheridan on a full field pass to catch the Nazareth defense off guard. Sheridan then connected with
Liam O'Connor on a pass in front of the cage, which he capitalized on. The Green and Gold fell behind as the Golden Flyers notched to back-to-back goals to hold a 2-1 advantage. Nazareth tacked on another last-minute goal to lead 3-1 heading into the next quarter.
Both teams went toe-to-toe in the second quarter, but it was Nazareth who added two goals to extend their lead to 5-1. Brockport fought back and eventually scored three straight goals to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Jake Recor started the scoring as he took his shot high past the visiting keeper. O'Connor kept things going as he beat the keeper near post on a man-up opportunity. The last goal of the run was scored 10 seconds later, when
Michael Caternolo won the face off and carried the ball into the offensive zone. The ball was stripped from him, but Recor scooped it up and stuffed it into the back of the cage.
The Golden Eagles slipped in the third quarter as Nazareth tallied three goals to pull ahead 8-4. Brockport was stopped on every offensive possession to keep them of the scoresheet. The Green and Gold tallied one more goal in the fourth quarter, but the gap was too large to mount of comeback as they lost 11-5.
Recor was the leading scorer for Brockport as he finished the game with three goals, while O'Connor added a pair of goals.
Nick Daigle handed out two assists on the contest, with
Patrick Sheridan and
Curtis Raymond totaled one a piece.
Kieran Fitzgerald lead the defense with two caused turnovers and two groundballs.
Caternolo was a solid 10-20 in the faceoff circle and scooped up seven groundballs.
Meyers played the full 60 minutes between the pipes racking up nine saves on the afternoon.
Brockport hits the road for their next contest as they face Keuka College this Saturday Mar. 10, with the game set to kickoff at 1 p.m.
