Brockport Defense Holds Win Over Houghton, 1-0

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team won in a dramatic 1-0 finish over Houghton College, Wednesday evening at Houghton.  The Golden Eagles move to 2-8 on the 2017 season, and the Highlanders drop to 4-5.

The first half was a defensive battle for both teams as neither could find the back of the net. The two-time State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) defensive field hockey player of the week, Sarah Beam, was tested throughout the entire game facing a total of 30 shots. The score ended 0-0 as both teams headed into halftime.

Brockport came out fired up as Maria Morgenthaler scored four minutes into play to take a 1-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles' defense buckled down stopping all scoring opportunities from the Highlanders in the second half. The Green and Gold held off a total of 30 penalty corners throughout the game to carry them to 1-0 victory.

Beam was unstoppable between the pipes, accounting for 19 saves on the game.

Brockport returns home this Friday, Oct. 29th to resume SUNYAC play against SUNY Cortland, with the game slated to start at 4 p.m.
