ITHACA, N.Y. - Junior
Amanda Profera (Wantagh) scored with three minutes, 30 seconds left in regulation and
Danika Svendsen (Stillwater) and
Abby Miller (Andover) combined to make four saves as Cortland defeated host Ithaca, 1-0, in a women's soccer non-league game.
Cortland improved to 3-0-2 on the season for the program's best unbeaten start since opening 7-0 in 2009. The Red Dragons have posted four shutouts in their first five games - a feat last accomplished by the team in 1991.
Profera made a move around a defender and buried a shot into the top right corner in the 87th minute for her first goal of the season. The Red Dragons did not allow any shots by the Bombers the rest of the way. Cortland has now defeated Ithaca each of the last three seasons.
Stacey DiGiorgio made six saves for Ithaca, which dropped to 1-4 on the year. Ithaca held an 11-8 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.
Cortland will host RPI on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Stadium White Field.
