Feldman's Combined Four HRs, De Padua's Walk-Off Shot, Help Cortland Sweep Brockport

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Junior Hannah Feldman (Buffalo/Sweet Home) hit a combined four home runs - a pair of two-run shots in each game - and senior Alissa De Padua (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) hit the game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh of Game 1 for her first collegiate round-tripper as Cortland swept visiting Brockport in a SUNYAC doubleheader.

Cortland (15-14, 8-2 SUNYAC) won the opener, 11-9, after rallying from 4-0 and 9-7 deficits, and the Red Dragons captured the second game, 8-0 in five innings, on a combined shutout by Courtney Kane (Bellport) and Sam Van Dorn (Medford/Patchogue-Medford).

Cortland will host Geneseo in a doubleheader Sunday at noon in a battle of the two teams currently tied for first in the SUNYAC standings.

Cortland 11, Brockport 9

De Padua hit a walk-off homer with a runner on third and two outs in the bottom of the seventh to lift Cortland to the wild victory in the opener. The winning rally started when Tori Scharff (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) singled with one out and took second on an error in the outfield. Pinch runner Haley Muehlbauer (Williamsville/Williamsville South) moved to third on a groundout and De Padua hit an 0-1 pitch that carried over the fence near the left center gap. De Padua finished 2-for-4 with a homer, double, two RBI and two runs.

The teams combined for 29 hits - 15 by Cortland and 14 by Brockport.  Ericka Sadowski (Liverpool) was 3-for-4, Andrea Schoonmaker (Marlboro) was 2-for-3 with a triple, double, walk, RBI and three runs, and Skyler Hoyt (Endicott/Union-Endicott) was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. De Padua, Schoonmaker and Hoyt were honored after the doubleheader as Cortland's three seniors on Senior Day.

Feldman was 2-for-4 with her two home runs, four RBI and two runs. Kelly O'Gorman (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) ended 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run.

Brockport was led by Lindsay Wachna, who finished 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and three runs, and Karleigh Eaton, who was 3-for-4 with a homer, four RBI and a run. Casey Danko and Kacie Hubbard each went 2-for-4.

Brockport struck for four runs in the top of the first on a Danko two-run double and RBI singles from Wachna and Eaton. Feldman homered in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to 4-2, and the Red Dragons tied it in the second on a De Padua double, Schoonmaker RBI triple and O'Gorman RBI single.

Cortland got out of a bases-loaded, no outs jam in the third on a lineout double play and a groundout. The Red Dragons took a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth when O'Gorman doubled, Hoyt hit an RBI single, and Feldman homered to left.

Wachna's leadoff homer in the fifth drew the Golden Eagles back within 7-5, and the guests took the lead with a four-run sixth that was highlighted by Eaton's three-run home run.

Cortland responded to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. Schoonmaker led off with a double and scored on Hoyt's one-out single. Hoyt advanced to second on an error during the hit, moved to third on a Feldman groundout, and scored on a wild pitch.

Van Dorn earned the win to improve to 8-6. She started the game but was pulled after three innings. Cady Walts (Cortland) pitched the fourth and the fifth innings and faced two batters in the sixth. She allowed three runs on four hits. Van Dorn re-entered and was the pitcher of record after finishing the final two innings. She gave up the Eaton homer in the sixth, but retired the side in order in the seventh to keep the game tied at 9-9 and set up De Padua's heroics. Julia Palopoli pitched four innings for Brockport and Amanda Colon suffered the loss after going the rest of the way.

Cortland 8, Brockport 0 (5 inn.)

Kane and Van Dorn combined on a three-hit shutout for the win. The game was called after four and a half innings due to the eight-run rule. Van Dorn started and pitched the first with one strikeout and one walk. Kane tossed the final four innings to improve to 2-1. She gave up three hits and one walk and struck out four.

Feldman staked Cortland to an early 2-0 lead with a two-run homer in the first following a Hoyt two-out walk. De Padua's infield single plated a run in the second, and Feldman's fourth two-run homer of the afternoon, and her 11th home run of the season, highlighted a three-run third that gave the Red Dragons a 6-0 lead.

Cortland pushed its margin to eight runs with a two-out rally in the fourth. Schoonmaker reached second on an error, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on an O'Gorman triple. O'Gorman then scored on a wild pitch. Kane allowed two runners in the top of the fifth on a one-out single by Shelby Perry, who finished 2-for-2, and a two-out Alexis Ross walk. She got the next batter to ground out to end the game.
