Dellicarri, Nolan Shine For Lakers in Victory

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Junior Mike Dellicarri collected three hits and classmate Brian Nolan allowed one earned run in seven strong innings to propel the No. 24 Oswego State baseball team to an 11-2 victory over Plattsburgh on Sunday afternoon.  The Lakers move to 21-8 overall and 12-3 in conference while the Cardinals fall to 7-21 (1-14).

The game was tight early on with Oswego taking a 2-1 lead into the top of the fifth inning.  Singles by Ryan Enos, Dellicarri, Myles Kutscher, Lukas Olsson and Kevin Hylas led to a five-run outburst and broke the game open.  After, Plattsburgh responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, the Lakers added some insurance in the top of the eighth.  Hylas singled to lead off and pinch hitter Zach Whelan roped a base hit to left field to put two aboard.  After a Brandon Nicholson hit-by-pitch loaded them up, Enos brought home a run with a sacrifice fly and Whelan scored on a wild pitch.  Dellicarri and Josh Hoagland followed with RBI-singles to make it 11-2.

Nolan (5-2) earns his fifth win of the season while allowing only five hits during the contest.  Matt Bowman and senior Patrick Gosney each pitched a clean inning in relief to close the door on any Cardinal comeback efforts.

Dellicarri continues his monster season for the Lakers as he leads the team in hits, runs, batting average, homeruns, and runs batted in.  He ranks among the top-three players in each of those categories in the SUNYAC conference coming into the weekend and his 7-for-13 performance this weekend should only solidify his position.

Baseball returns to the field when they take on regional power Ithaca College at 4 p.m. this Tuesday at the Laker Baseball Field.
