DALLAS, PA. - The Cortland women's tennis team finished its spring season with a tight 5-4 dual-match loss at Misericordia University.
Cortland trailed 2-1 after doubles play, with its win coming from
Kelliann Camp (Sayville) and
Cassie Special (Williamsville/Williamsville South) at the second flight, 8-4. The host Cougars picked up an 8-6 win at first doubles from Allison Mattucci and Carly Young over Cortland's
Mia Hayes (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) and
Nikaylah Williams (Wheatley Heights/Half Hollow Hills West), and an 8-3 win by Erika Slowicki and Tayor Daton at third doubles versus
Jenna Bellair (Whitesboro) and
Hope Biersach (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor).
The teams split their six singles matches, with nine of the 13 sets at 6-4 or closer. Hayes won 6-4, 6-4 at first singles and
Isabella Arrigo (Sauquoit/Sauquoit Valley) was victorious 6-4, 6-4 at fifth singles. Williams earned a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 win at second singles, with a 10-point super tiebreaker played in place of the third set.
Misericordia's Linsey Parks won 6-2, 6-4 over Camp at third singles and Amberlynn Habich won 6-4, 6-4 over Special at fourth singles. Kayla Rembish registered a 6-3, 6-3 victory versus
Olivia Terry (Hampton Bays) at sixth singles.
