Gustafson wins at Fredonia

Gustafson Sets Record as XC Teams Begin Season

FREDONIA, N.Y.- The Oswego State men and women's cross country teams both competed at the Fredonia State Invitational on Saturday. The men placed third and the women placed second. Sophomore Emily Gustafon highlighted the day with a first-place finish.

  • Men's Result: 3rd Place (of 4)
  • Women's Result: 2nd Place (of 3)
  • Location: SUNY Fredonia- Fredonia, N.Y.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Three Lakers claimed spots in the top 10 for the women, led by Emily Gustafson's first-place finish.
  • The sophomore finished in 15:49.00, shattering the previous course record of 16:09, nearly one-minute faster than the field.
  • Sophomore Hannah Hertik placed seventh in 16:58.95
  • The final Laker in the top 10 was junior Sarah Rappleye, claiming eighth place at 17:10.29
  • Also finishing in the top half of the field, out of 43 runners, were sophomore Emily Blake (14th place), freshman Amelia Alexander (19th place) and junior Yajaira Ramos (20th place).
  • On the men's side, freshman Gabriel Winters-Bona placed fifth at 20:42.83 in his first-collegiate race.
  • Lakers finishing in the top 25, out of 63 runners, included junior Matthew Barbookles, sophomore Nathan Couse and junior Emanuel Morales.
  • In 12th place, Barbookles crossed the finish line at 21:12.27, while Couse placed 16th in 21:21.36. Morales was the final runner in the top 25 at 21:50.68.
  • Finishing in the top half of the race were senior Eric Perez, clocking a 21:59.08, followed closely by freshman Brad Laquidari in 22:13.52.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will head to SUNY New Paltz at 11a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 for the Pre-SUNYAC Invitational.
