ONEONTA, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team suffered a tough State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) loss on Saturday, falling on the road to SUNY Oneonta 8-1.
 
The Golden Eagles fall to 1-8 on the year and now have an 0-2 mark in league play while the Red Dragons move to 6-2 in 2017 and have a 2-0 record within the SUNYAC.
 
Brockport found themselves trailing early, as the Red Dragons found the back of the cage in the opening minute of play to establish a lead. The Green and Gold would see five more Red Dragon goals, as they faced a 6-0 deficit by the 25-minute mark.
 
The Golden Eagles cut into the Red Dragon lead in the 27th minute when Molly Scarpello connected on a Christina Conkling pass, crossing the circle to beat the Oneonta net-minder one-on-one, and post her first goal of the season. Brockport would head into the break trailing 6-1.
 
In the second half, the Green and Gold defense stepped up, only allowing two Red Dragon goals. The Brockport offense however could not find the back of the cage, falling 8-1.
 
Brockport worked for three shots in the contest, with two on goal, and were awarded six penalty corners.
 
Sarah Beam picked up the start in goal, with 35 minutes of action, making three saves. Adriana DeDie made her debut in the contest for the second half, seeing 35 minutes in goal, making 11 stops.
 
The Golden Eagles will return to action on Sept. 27 when they travel to Houghton College for non-conference play.
