The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team opened its 2018 season today at Misericordia coming up on the short end of a 10-5 score. Senior
Hunter DeLuca (Medford/Patchogue Medford) and newcomer
Andrew Stamatel (Glens Falls/Glens Falls) paced the attack with two goals each.

Junior
Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) scored the opening goal of the game at the 12:17 mark of the first quarter unassisted. The Cougars struck back with three unanswered goals including an extra-man tally to carry a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.

Both teams managed one goal each in the second quarter including a man-up goal by DeLuca with 2:27 remaining to bring Oneonta to within a pair of goals entering halftime trailing 4-2.

Miserocordia doubled up the Red Dragons in the third quarter to push its lead to 8-4 entering the final period. Stamatel tallied both goals for Oneonta unassisted.

The final goal of the afternoon for Oneonta came early in the fourth by Deluca, who scored his second man-up goal of the game assisted by
Pete McCormack (Mineola/Mineola).

Andrew Helfman (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and sophomore
Zachary Flynn (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) each played a half in goal for Oneonta today. Helfman didn't record a save in the game while Flynn registered three saves.

Oneonta's next contest will come next Saturday, Mar. 3 at home versus Morrisville beginning at noon.
