CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland women's tennis team opened SUNYAC play with a 9-0 dual-match loss to visiting Oneonta. Cortland falls to 1-2 overall. Oneonta improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The most exciting match of the day was at first doubles where Oneonta's Julieta Eulau and Alyssa Brault outlasted Cortland's
Mia Hayes (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) and
Chloe Knapp (Jamestown), 9-8, after winning a 7-5 tiebreaker. That match lasted more than two hours.
Oneonta's Mya Lipscomb and Olivia Fraser won 8-4 at second doubles and Alexandra Dratch and Madeline Carswell won 8-1 at third doubles. The visiting Red Dragons claimed all six singles matches in straight sets. The closest matches were at the first flight, with Eulau winning 6-3, 6-3 over Hayes, and the third flight, which saw Lipscomb win 6-2, 6-4 over
Isabella Arrigo (Sauquoit/Sauquoit Valley).
Cortland travels to Geneseo for a league match Friday at 3 p.m.
