Mack Double-Doubles, Bryant Scores 22 In Men’s Basketball 77-60 Win Over Fredonia

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team picked up their second win of the season and first conference win with a 77-60 triumph over Fredoina to open State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play Friday night in Memorial Hall.

The Cardinals improved to 2-2 overall and start out 1-0 in the conference while the Blue Devils drop to 1-5, 0-1 SUNYAC.

Senior guards Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) and Eric Mack (Roosevelt, N.Y./Baldwin) led the Cardinals scoring a combined 34 points between the two.

Bryan put up a season high 22 points accounting for six of the 14 free throws the Cardinals made and had two steals.

Mack double-doubled with 12 points and 10 rebounds and also had a career high eight blocks to tie the Plattsburgh State record for most blocks in a game which was last done in 2005.

Junior forward Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) scored nine points and had a team high of 12 rebounds.

The game was tied three times and the lead changed seven times in the first half before Plattsburgh State went on an 11 point run to take the lead.

Bryant started it with a layup, two free throws, a three-pointer, another layup and Mack finished it with a dunk to take a 28-18 advantage.

The Blue Devils cut the Cardinals lead to five points but a free throw by sophomore forward Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) and two from Bryant gave Plattsburgh State an eight point advantage. Fredonia was able to put in a free throw to end the half and headed into halftime with a score of 35-29.

Fredonia came within three points of the lead a few times in the second half before the Cardinals went on a ten point run to put them up by 13 points.

Sophomore guard Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) started it off with a three-pointer followed by a layup by Mack, a layup from Jaquish and another three-pointer by DeAngelis.

The Cardinals took a 16 point lead with 2:30 remaining after another dunk from Mack and extended it to 18 points with a layup by junior guard/forward Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes).

The Blue Devils were able to make a three-pointer with ten seconds left but freshman guard Travis Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) put in a last second layup to give the Cardinals a 17 point win.

Plattsburgh State is home Saturday, Dec. 2, for a conference game against Buffalo State at 3 p.m.
